The effectivity of the 183/89 italian law on the defence of the soil and of the following President Decrees 85/91 and 106/93 have sanctioned the birth and identified the tasks of the department for the national technical services  in the world of the chairmanship of the Cabinet. From this event the hydrographic service and national Mareografico (SIMN) received an impulse that, besides promote an action incisive in the properly hydrographic sector, considerably increased the activities in the maritime field.

Task of the SIMN is that one to supply to the systematic relief and the processing of the relative largenesses to the marine climate, the state of shorelines and the levels navy, to supply to the systematic publication of the elements observed and processed and cartography and to predispose criteria, methods and standard of collection, analysis and consultation of the relative data to the carried out cognitive activity

The SIMN supplies data, opinions and consultations to whoever do request and supports the local corporations and him other corporations public and of public right. In the maritime field the SIMN hired the management of the national net Ondametrica (RON,) realized to his time by the Ministry of the public jobs, and (RMN) arranged for the reorganization of the national tide gauge network.

 

The national tide gauge network composed stations of measure uniformly put on the national territory of 36 and located indoors of the structures dockers prevalently.

This net replaces the system of pre-existent tracking mareografico in full. A part some listed stations had been originally moved to the SIMN from the Ministry of the public jobs in opportunity of the organization of the SIMN in the department of the national technical services near the chairmanship of the Cabinet. In such stations maritime works worked for mechanical many tide-gauges years to paper recording managed by the peripheral sections of the civil genius. In 1986 states installed of the electronic tide-gauges to float with local recording in memory EPROM are.

The new stations that compose the RMN are composed by two measure of the tide tools: Principal one (principal) to ultrasounds with tubular guide of the bundle and compensation of temperature, and one (secondary) to float and paper recording for the punctual verification of the measures, the analysis of events particular or phenomena and the recovery of the data in the cases of missed working of the tool.

Tide-gauges are reported to a basis quoted with high-accuracy levelling, opportunely verified, on the basis of the nearer basis IGM. Stations are also provided with a sensor anemometrico (speed and direction of the wind to 10 meters from the land,) of a barometric sensor, a temperature of the air sensor and a temperature of water sensor.

All the stations are gifted with of a local system of management and memorization of the data and an apparatus of realtime transmission at the central seat of the SIMN in Rome.

From when her national new tide gauge network operating is fully, the SIMN puts some brought relative clauses to time serieses, realtime observations, forecast of the data of astronomical tide, analysis of the data to planning purposes up to date and scientific information users at disposal.

The data mareografici up-to-date local and the tide constants will be published on an annual bulletin. The SIMN besides arranged to make a recovery operation and reorganization of the historical data of the pre-existent net, both in paper form and digital form, be able to put beside one in relief to the historical observations from the national new net.
